Dear God,
I have been trying to figure out if you are really there or not for twenty one years. I am a man of science and a man of logic and you simply just don’t make sense. I yearn to be saved for selfish reasons only and if I can’t overcome that mentality how can I ever be saved? I think you have proven to me in the past that you exist but I still don’t believe it. I still rationalize that my life is so terrible for a reason and that it all must be for something but that directly contradicts my real beliefs. I’m lost.

I can really understand you, because I also think so.
Did you ever heard about Heisenbergs uncertainty theory? He says, that a little particle cannot be described in time and in room exactly. You can only approximate it. Heisenberg wrote that God is that indescribable part.
God is much more, than we can understand. But there are so many things, that let us know, there is someone else, who is much more bigger than we are. And this is logic, this makes sense.
I think, it’s senseless and even stupid to think of a world without God.

As a mathematics major we prove everything with theorems and proofs, and things that can’t be proven don’t exist. I, like you, have been struggling for the last 21 years to prove god, but at the same time I realize that everything I try to prove is rational, while the idea of God is irrational, he is uncountable, I still am figuring out if I believe or not, but I always think, can I quantify love? can I rationalize love or prove love? and then I think if I can’t prove love but I know it exists, I either have to concede love doesnt exist or that there is a possibility that love, like god may exist. I think this place would be pretty sad if I chose to think love doesnt exist.

I was basically raised in the church, but for a long time I wondered if God was real or not. I cannot prove to you that God is real in any logical sense. He is a being that is invisible and intangible. God is super and supranatural. In fact, the Bible often shows how God defies human understanding by using unlikely people in unfortunate circumstances to do truly amazing things. Abraham and Sarah conceiving a child in their winter years (Genesis 19, 21) and Gideon defeating the huge Midianite army with only 300 men (Judges 6) are two examples that immediately come to mind. 1 Corinthians 1:20 says, “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” and a little later on, in chapter 3:19, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.”
I’m not trying to say you’re being foolish for trying to understand God; rather, I’m saying that what God truly wants is faith instead of understanding. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Not only does our faith help to prove in our hearts that God exists, but “without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists” (Hebrews 11:6). I’m not sure how familiar you are with the scriptures, which is why I’m throwing these your way. I can tell you, though, that God is doing many miracles in the world today. “Finger of God,” a documentary by Darren Wilson, shows many examples of God doing miraculous works, and is a great faith builder.
As far as your desire to be saved, I sincerely believe that you can be, no matter your motive. The Bible doesn’t ever say that you have to be good to get saved, it only says that you have to “confess …, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). God can help to change a person’s heart if they are willing. If you make the first step, he can and will help you. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
You also say that your life is terrible. I’m sorry, and I’ll pray for you. Please keep in mind, though, that God is good all the time, and Satan is bad all the time. If you’re going through hard times, it’s not God causing it. He does allow it, though, because it helps build character. I know that isn’t a very comforting thing to hear, but God knows what you’re going through and will be with you through any hardship.
I hope that this helped you in some way, and I pray that God will help you in your search to find him.

There are things in this world that aren’t meant to be “solved” or understood. You just know.
The way I know God exists? My brother had triplets, two girls and one boy. The boy didn’t survive but the girls did. Couple months later, my brother and his wife found out they were expecting a boy. yeah kinda soon, i know haha but I just think it’s another one of God’s work wether or not my brother and his wife planned it.

i feel the same from time to time, i am so lost. But you know what’s funny? that when i feel the happiest and safe is when i just feel his presence. I am sure one day we will understand in Gods whole plan.

I know what you mean.
God doesn’t make sense to me at the best of times. But maybe our definition of “sense” is flawed? I don’t have all the answers for you. To be completely honest, I’ve known God for 11 years and I’m still trying to figure things out.
I just want you to know that it’s okay to question things. In fact, it’s great that you do. God thinks it’s cool that you’re looking into what He’s all about.
Being honest with Him is a good place to be too. How you acknowledged that you think you’re looking for salvation selfishly? Not many people are that honest with God.
Or themselves.
If you really want your yearning for salvation to be sincere, ask God to give you that sincerity. He can do that kind of stuff. And He wants to.
For now, try and be patient. Read up on God. On Jesus. Keep talking to Him. And keep asking Him to give you that sincerity.
Something will switch inside you one day. And you’ll know it when it happens.
I just wanted to encourage you. I don’t think you’re not in an altogether bad place.
Maybe you’re exactly where God meant for you to be?
Maybe He’s closer than you realise?
Maybe you’re closer to Him than you think?

There is no science behind God,
I also asked myself the question
“What if I just wanted to be saved just to make sure I live for eternity?”
God knows that man sins.
We can’t help it we MUST sin.
That’s just how we were made.
But there is also a reason why God made us sin.
So that we can realise what we are doing and rely on God.
Just trust that you believe in God.
Have Faith.

I understand you completley. I used to stress over whether or not anything existed beyond humanity, but i’ve decided that faith is something that grows, so i simply beleive what i beleive and embrace new ideas as they come. spirtuality should be something that enlightens you and makes you feel stronger, not something that causes you worry and pain.
i do beleive in something, maybe not the God from the Bible, but definetley something greater. its completley plausible in my book. people are slowly deteriorating heaps of atoms bonded together to form flesh and guts; basically, a pile of matter. and yet these heaps of mass and flesh are capable of feeling such strong emotions….inspiration, love, aprehension, fear, rage. the fact that we’re alive, thinking, and moving is so uncomprehensivley bizarre that the existence of a God seems completley rational to me.
either way, if there is a God i also think he probably understands it must be hard to beleive in him in a time where science dictates so much of what we do. so if he exists and is half the man he says he is i dont think he’ll be mad about your sceptisism

Simple childlike faith is what it takes. Simply believing with your heart ! In all of this spetrum of things science isn’t exact, as everyday things that were once thought to be fact change and suddenly anew reference is concluded. The atom was thought to be the smallest sub atomic particle, but that was changed some years ago and it is now called “quirks”.
The bible teaches that without faith, it is impossible to please him, Hebrews 11:6. And then in Mark11:22 it reads have faith in God. Romans 10:17 reads Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of God.
I propose a question to you; Who do you think created science? you have the same characteristics as God imparted in you as humans are the only creatures on earth that has the ability to create. Not one single animal on earth has one single patten for an invention !Did you know that in the animal kingdom ,all of the male animals are the ones who are the most colorful and attractive, while in man it is the woman?
Think about the fact that when God said, be fruitful and mutiply,at that instant he invented sex ! Let’s look at this for a second, If sex had been painful, in its act, do you think you would have been concieved? That is God given and when it is not perverted it works fine, between one man and one woman. Only with multiple partners do things start to go wrong. ( wierd diseases ) How come for the most part, by in large the animal kingdom, does’nt have the problems humans do in this area?
Did you know, that the steel bits used in metal cuting lathes came from looking at rats teeth in that how they have a bevilled edge at its cutting piont, same as a rats teeth.
In Isaiah 55:8-9 reads ” For my thuoghts are not your thoughts, Nor are you ways My ways,” say’s the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth,So are my ways higher than your ways And my thoughts than you thoughts. You see what man discovers in science, has been there since the beginning, because of its original creator called ” I AM ”
If you meditate on the words ” I AM” it says it all.
Hear is how it works ,What God started he is able to finish ! To believe that Jesus died for you and I, and put your trust in that simple truth, as he was and is the son of the living God,and trust that he did for us, to do what we could not do for ourselves ( be perfectly good) ask him to forgive your past (He is not going to be shocked by it) to come into your heart and simply believe. God wants you to serve him because you want to, “not” because you have to. It is your choice. You are not going to look any different in the natural, not going to be a band playing party suddenly, But man - o- man what happens on the inside ! ! ! No human words can describe that inward peace. And that word PEACE just somehow isn’t a big enough word to say all of it. Then find you a Church that teaches God’s words, and begin a journey through life as you have never thought could be possible. Remember this” Religion stinks” as it binds you. True Christianity sets you free as it is the perfect law of liberty, because now you are” practicing” to do good !
