Dear God,

I have a recurring dream, where I’m lying on my back on the grass, looking at a starry night sky. it is very peaceful, and then I hear a voice. then for a moment, I understand the meaning of life and why I am here. Then i wake up. Once I wake up, I forget the meaning of life. This is such an accurate reflection of my life. I am living in an illusion, and just as I see the meaning, it disappears. I cant take this anymore. The meaning of life is a life of meaning, but what is the meaning? Please help me.

We are all living in a life of illusion but we know the meaning of life how and what we want to make of it. However, most lie at the subconscious. It seems so ever frustrating that this elusive meaning is just stirring at the surface of our consciousness but yet it is just so hard to grasp it.

It is ok to feel loss and that life seems meaningless. We all go through it. Life is what we make of it. Ask what you want to be remembered for, what is it that gives you that feel good feeling and work towards it. It is not easy and was never meant to be easy. Good luck on it. I am still working towards it too.

  2. Hwith Says:

Read the book ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle. It is the answer to your prayers. (-:

  3. Christopher Warren Says:

Dont read Eckart Tolle, it provides no who the meaning of it all. He just talks about a bunch of spiritual junk to captive the average uninformed person.

I know exactly what you are struggling with. I had struggled with it my whole, until just recently . . . I finally fingured it out. This is not a joke, I am serious. The meaning of life is that YOU ARE GOD. The reason you come so close to realizing this, but always lose it is because the idea is so abstract that it will not become a reality until you can communicate it to someone else. You see, communication is the key to life. Everything in your life is a symbol for something greater . . . your divinity. Think of God and Jesus as symbols, like you are God and I am Jesus, you cannot realize you are God without me, and vice versa. The symbol of the trinity is the communicative connection between you as man and you as God. All language, art, science, religion, literature, war, suffering and everything else exists so that each individual can realize this ultimate truth. This has changed my life and everyone’s around me. this is it. This is what you’ve been looking for. Every moment of your life, every synchronicity, every symbol has been leading you to this moment. If you need more info and explanation, just email me (russdick311@yahoo.com) I would be happy to help. Ever since I discovered this, all I want to do is share it with everyone who is ready to hear it. go in peace. I love you . . . afterall, you’re just me.

  5. Kenneth Says:

The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. It’s that simple. BTW: You’re not God and neither am I.

  6. god Says:

    Oh yes we are :)

    Johnnie,

Please don’t listen to anyone who claims to know the meaning of life. They simply desire more company for their own delusions. But give some thought to the possibility that maybe life has no meaning at all. You are born you live and you die end of story. Is that really so bad? You have choices and many possible destinations in this life. There is pain in life, but it is there for a reason, It is a driving force for growth. Don’t mask it with simple fantasies. You have to understand this world is heaven for us. Try and imagine an afterlife that would be satisfying to any conscious intelligent being. Nothing left to learn, no point in really doing anything because there will be tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and an infinite number after that, no reason to take care of yourself etc.. Or is it just an everlasting shot of heroin. My point is that this is as close to heaven as it gets for humans. Enjoy it, Just live your life, learn as much as you can and try to face every truth you find with courage, rather than self deception. I only say this because too many take the path of least resistance, but rather than leading to real meaning, religion simply inhibits any further growth or learning. After all you have discovered the one true god, what else do you need? I think if you can avoid this easy path, and have the courage to face life on it’s terms, you may be surprised just how much meaning you can eventually find in reality. All the best.

  8. russ Says:

kozz, everything you just said only further explains what JC said. You are absolutely right . . . the thing is, so is he. The true god is consciousness, and so are we. Pain is there for a reason . . . everything is there for a reason–literally. Religion is misleading because you have to think of it in terms of sybolism instead of legitimate fact. By understanding the sybolism or language of god/consciousness every religion proves the same thing . . . so does science . . . so does math . . . so does art, etc. etc. All avenues of throught are striving to prove the same thing and we’re all getting closer everyday. It’s Einstein’s Unifying Theory.

  9. Amanda Says:

Are we meant to just find our own path, be a god unto ourselves? Or as Maslow states, ‘to find self-actualization’.
There is a reason for living and it isn’t just to ‘be true to ourselves’. Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, William Wilberforce and countless men and women who have willingly surrended themselves to what was right - despite it taking their lives, causing them pain and requiring all their efforts - have made the world a better place.

Wouldn’t earth be so similar to heaven if we just did what we know deep down to be right and to give ourselves to what God would have us do - in His good and perfect will. First we need to let ourselves be changed, but before we’re fixed we need to roll up our sleeves, ask for His direction and be a cause for good in the world.

“Dear God, I think you’re real. Please show me who you are so I can follow you.”

  10. YHVH Says:

JC and russ are on the right path. You must discover that you are one with all the energy of the universe. This energy, this consciousness, this is God, this is you. You can discover your inner-god or universal consciousness if you really commit yourself. Mystical states, or being in the presence of god/eternal consciousness, can be achieved with meditation (primary route) and/or plant entheogens. I have a friend who achieved enlightenment on mushrooms and it changed his life forever (5 years ago: he’s still glowing). He did however practice meditation and yoga, and he treated natural occuring psychedelics with respect and reverence. I’m not suggesting that just anyone can do this, you have to be serious and dedicated to finding the truth. I achieved enlightenment through meditation, though mushrooms and peyote played their parts. My consciousness left my body and merged with the godhead. I felt eternal, aware, at peace. I understood the entire universe and all of its intricacies . . . all of existence made perfect sense. The cosmic puzzle came together and revealed the meaning of everything. It changed my life permenately. I used to be a cynical realist who thought every organisation was out to manipulate you. I thought christianity was a blatant hypocracy. But now, I understand the need for everything. even down to global warming and catholic priest molestations.
If you seek the truth fervently enough, you will find it . . . and you will be disturbed, bewildered, reborn, and changed forever.

it is true, we live in an illusion. i believe its part of the reason we are all so different. we go on believing in all these things we want and think and by the end we’ve completly lost it all. i had a dream the other night that i saw what “nothing” looked like; the most beautiful blue colour one ever did see. but it was gone in a second and even im my dream i was filled with such sorrow that i could never truely experience that feeling. or perhaps i can who knows. maybe i have but i didn’t realise it. i dont ever recall feeling like i knew why i was here; all i wish is that i knew…. but generally i just wash all these thoughts away becuase i know im happy. maybe thats all we can aim for. life is kind of cheating us in a way. screwing us over and toying with our emotions. at least thats what we say. but really its us. if there is no god and no meaning. its ourselves that doing this; doing these things to our head and such. god is just who we blame for our troubles.

im not sure what my point is. i know i’ll go on trying to find the meaning. at least i can make peace with the fact im unlikely to find one.

    much love all…. x

  12. ANGIE Says:

i recentally read a story were this man kept having a dream or a golden rose, and everytime he went to look at it someone would cut it down, and he would wake up feeling miserable like a part of him had died. after weeks and weeks of the same dream he finally realised that his girlfriend was the golden rose. he also realised that the person that was cutting it down was him not asking him to marry her. wen he finally popped the question he had only one more dream like it only this time he was read for the person and stopped them from cutting the rose down. after that night he never had it again. my point is that the decisions you make and the things you will effect who you are.
you keep haveing that dream for a reason..and somewhere in your conscience is the answer to the meaning of your life. just wait and trust in god and it willl happene eventually. pray to him and ask him for strength to follow out in his light, and you will find the meaning of your life.

    GOOD LUCK!!! =]

  13. Kozz Says:

    YHVC,

Although I would myself recommend the use of meditation to get to know oneself better, or to come to a better understanding of the world. I’m afraid, as with anything else, there are those who will confuse the extreme states of mind that can come with overuse, with some grand truth, when in fact, the same types of “truths” can be experienced by people when they are in the throes of religious fervor, or when they are dreaming, or in fact, when they are under the influence of mushrooms or lsd. But people have always confused what feels good with ultimate truth, and it will always lead to such things as thinking that there is meaning in things such as the molestation of children by Catholic priests, as you seem to think, or that it is OK to torture and then burn someone alive for being a heretic or a witch.

It saddens me that such a vast majority of the human species cannot seem to cope with the incredible gift of self awareness, without squandering it in self deception at every opportunity. I understand the difficulties involved, we all have them, but the desire to kill the pain in whatever way possible is not the answer. Whether it be an addiction to religion, drugs, eating or shopping, they all take their own tolls and only lead to one possible destination for humanity. Try to be one of the few who are strong enough to stand up and face the pain head on, and use the beauty of this world, and the mysteries of what is left to learn as our driving forces, while also using the compassion, that can only come from such a clear view, to ease the suffering of all humanity.

in the dream… you are lying on your back on the ground.. there for you are lying down to the lowest point you could go.. this means humbling your self… you are starring up at the sky and feel peace and the voice comes from the skies… this means to keep your eyes looking up…

what im trying to say and i believe this is what the dream means… is that you have to humble yourself before the presence of God and keep your eyes up… meaning on him and the things that are not of this world.. spiritual things.. realize that when you were looking up you felt peace which is what God will give you and the voic e that told you the meaning of life came from up there.. it came from God.. focus and humble yourself before God… seek Him and listen for His voice because he will answer you.. he knows your purpose… and He is the meaning of life…. start looking up…

    with love,
    cindy

Cindy gave you a good answer. What she said kinda goes with this verse, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). Maybe you have humdled yourself though and are still, searching for answers. I know how you feel. I’ve searched and waited and struggled for answers for a long time. I still don’t know my exact purpose on this earth, but I know the meaning of my life is loving God and loving and serving those around me as Christ would have. I know it could be different for you, or it could be the same. Just be patient, I know that is the worst thing anyone can tell you, but just wait and keep searching, He’ll reveal the answer to you in time. I’ll remember you in my prayers. Keep searching, always keep searching. It’s going to work out :)

We are all here on a mission! our mission is to spread the Gospel of Christ so that no one shall perish but have enternal life. Unfortunaely many of us get wrapped in our our desires that we forget what was intended of us. Learn the Holy scriptures so that you can put on the armor of God and prepare to go and due what was indended of you. If you don’t attend a church, I encourage you to seek a christian Church that will help answer many of your questions and will help you grow to a more mature level and you will find what your purpose in life is and how God want to use you..I encourage you to read ” the purpose Driven Life” God bless you…

The meaning of life, the reason we were put on this earth is to serve and worship God. That’s what it is, simple huh? The one thing I would recommend is read The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren, it will tell you how to live out your purpose in life.

  20. Courtney Says:

    thank you for writing this.
    you have inspiried me.
    i may not know you.
    i may never see you.
    but you helped me.
your purpose in life will come.
maybe it’s to dream up a meaning of your own.
    i didn’t need a sign.
i went for what i thought best for me
    now i have new ways.
    and some old.
but the new people i have meet and seen and heard of
have told me more about myself
    and everything around me
    more then ever.
    your sign is here.
    make it up yourself.

  21. green friend Says:

Try to find meaning to this moment. Build upon it both in the future and in the past. Try to build progressively, like if You’re to reach eternity one day. Try to become aware of the world around You. Try not to fall in the depths of the hell called sorrow and grief. watch Robin williams in “What dreams may come”. Try to make sense from it. It really has sense. Try to find joy in the Good things life has to offer and bite through difficult times. Try all this and fail/Try all this and succeed. I’m failing many times a day. I’ve been doing it since I lost faith in me because of what happened around me. I’m succeeding many times a day. It brings joy and abundance to my life.
