boy.jpg Dear Conscience, The last year hasn’t been a good one professionally. I got fired twice in the last year..and its not a good thing for my ego and self-respect. I know am a good employee, diligent worker and have a logical manner of working efficiently..but somehow because of my outspoken attitude, I always get cornered. The previous job was with a MNC..and sure as hell, I can not go back there and work ever. And they are coming up with the most exciting new ventures. This time around, I lost a job where I learned a LOT in terms of a whole new medium of work..but the people irked me..and I, as always, stood my ground and lost my job yet again. Is integrity such a bad thing? Or am I being too pushy about those things that I want around me? I’m not shirking work, and I know my work is appreciated and well-received, now then, what could be the real reason behind the ouster? I’m unfortunately really shaken up by this..and honestly, hate the unemployment feeling. I know something else will come about (and I hope it comes about soon. I’ve already been home and moneyless for two weeks), and I hope I can erase this off my record and move on. Fortunately, I am looking for jobs..and I’m unwilling to settle down for second best. I always choose to do the things that I want to do. Last time around, it took my three months to find a job I wanted to do.. I hope this time around, it’ll be sooner and that I will have the chance to prove that I am a good employee, team member and as hardworking an asset to an organisation as I can be. Signed, Anna - India

    Make that three girls!

I am a creative employee, always looking for was to improve things and never going along with “group think.” I get the sense that people are threatened by this or that I can’t be trusted.

Last year I took some extensive employement tests, which pointed out that I might be writing off an entire person if they make one mistake. For example, if someone makes a spelling mistake, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t talented. It only means that they made a spelling mistake - that’s all. Basically, I have to stop worrying about/judging my co-workers and be concerned about advancing my own career. The book, It’s a Job, Not a Jail, has helped me a lot!

    Dear God,
    Help women at work.
    Amen.

Hi ladies. Bless you all for posting here, because we’re all in the same boat (except I’m a guy). I retired from the military about two and a half years ago, and I’ve also been fired from my last two jobs. (My last day was Thursday, July 3, 2008.) I can’t believe that I got fired. worked harder than I’ve ever worked before — first one there in the morning, last one to leave at night. And the work that I produced was top notch. But one day, a customer didn’t like how I asked them a simple question and they complained to my boss. The first time I was ever spoken to about anything, it was to cut me loose. Maybe I don’t understand civilian life, but are people usually fired for making one small mistake? How can anyone hope to succeed when you have to be perfect? I want to thank God that I have my military retirement and medical benefits — so I’ll be able to weather the jobless time better than most. I also want to thank God for my good health, and for my great family. Dear God, please help all of us who are ready and willing to put forth our best efforts and work hard to provide for our families. I would also respectfully ask that you grant us strength of will, serenity and stronger faith in you. We surrender our lives to your kind and loving will. Thank you, God.

    Amen.

  5. Rev. James A. Prather Says:

God knows we all must work and be obedient to his will. I believe god has a great plan for each of us. All we have to do is, be still long enough, to allow god to speek to us. How do we go about doing this? Set aside time to be quiet, just you and God in peace and quiet…5 minutes…10 minutes…15 minutes…or more. You will find that truely connecting with God, answers to your Prayers will come and you will become a better you. A more patient you, a more relaxed you, a more accepting you. My Prayer for you is MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU, MAY GOD SHINE HIS GRACE UPON YOU AND GRANT YOU PEACE, AMEN.

I hear you out there. I had a similar experience this year and I felt awful and while I found work still think back to how traumatic it was for me to be let go from a job. In the end I’m fine and happy with where I am right now. I’m working, providing for my family, and letting work be just that work.

LightHouse has a point. See about working for yourself. No matter what you do as long as you’re working for someone else it’s all about their policies and what THEY want not what you want (or what makes sense). No matter where you are or how long you’ve been there in the end when someone else is calling the shots anyone is expendable.

Where I am now is working for me fine but I’m also working toward a bigger plan that may not make me rich but will definitely have me making the decisions that I feel is right in an environment I’m comfortable in.

I’m a guy and I haven’t been fired but rather quit myself as I was sick of working for a bogus company like that. The management treats the employees like shit and particularly the bitch working as the H.R. boss is such a wrong snake. She pretends to be nice, but at the same time, stabs you in your back for no reason. The fact that they systematically mob employees is known to the management and they even endorse and encourage it (not officially, of course, but that’s how they act and select people for promotions). You know why? As they simply can do it and nobody stops them. There’s always enough supply of naive immigrants who are tricked by the company’s bright ads (which have nothing to do with how reality within the company looks like). So they’re burning their employees and once those realized that they’re being exploited and abused, they replace them by newbies. That’s their business model. And guess what: This company isn’t located in a despotic country, but in beautiful and “correct” Switzerland!

So my advice to all people applying for a new job is: Make sure you can contact and talk to current and former employees of the company before signing any contract. Laws and orders aren’t enough to stop such companies (as they always know a way around them), all we can do is cut their supply of firewood. And pray that one day, God will punish such mean people.

  8. Jaz Says:

    Hello all,

The bottom line is…at someone else’s company things are not always going to go you’re way and people are definitely not going to always agree with what you have to say. If you find a company that has a lot to offer your career or something that could potentially enhance your ability to operate your own business…it’s simple:

Learn as much as you can

Give input and speak up when necessary

Work to the best of your ability

    And keep your mouth shut

Chances are every company has something unethical or unjust going on. It’s not your job to police companies. Learn what they are doing right and wrong, take it, use it, and run your own business in an ethical just fashion. I believe god has a lesson in every experience…stick around at the next gig and give him time to teach it and for you to understand it. Peace

  9. Kozz Says:

Being a good employee is highly overrated. It generally means giving up quite a bit of who you are as a person, and if you are not a sheep by nature, that can be very hard. . For these people going out on their own can be a good option, but in this case, a powerful desire for money or power can be very good traits. Bottom line is that for the independent minded humanitarian, (exactly the type of people we need more of), finding the right fit can be much harder than for most. Take solace in the fact that you may be one of these people, and if you are, I hope you will find your place, without compromise.

  10. Nate Says:

I can relate I lost my house over it a few years ago: No it is not wrong to have integrity it is sad that most of corporate does not allow for this any longer. Here is what I suggest. Get people who truly understand your situation not fare weathered friends around you. Look to your natural talents or anything to think outside their (corporate) box to make money. It never hurts to have a few projects going at a time so you don’t have to solely depend on your day jobs; they go away!

Save as much as you can now. “Keep you mouth shut” what a load of crap! If the only thing that is keeping you afloat is your ability to do main stream corporate by shutting your mouth and only to “keep” your job then quit now! Let get real honest here. Most people hate their jobs and it is only a means to barely provide for their needs in the first place. Depend on God to provide no one else.

The market however unfortunate is reserved mostly for the educated since we are in post 911 this again is crap. Keep a record of conversations and times etc, and no if someone fires you for one experience with one customer then you are better off in the first place, however do due-diligence and research your states employment laws: memorize them because most employers do not know the law and thy do things everyday that breach our rights as governed by your states law. If you are fired.. challenge their assumptions, question them, what does it matter they fired you right? If they fired you, you will not get a good reference I know as well fargo corporate where I worked,

File for unemployment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES EVEN IF YOU WERE FIRED. I have many time received unemployment even after being fired if you are denied unemployment contest it a judge will call you and your employer and discuss what happened. YOU STILL STAND A CHANCE OF GETTING BENEFITS.

There are thing that will help….

Over all I would suggest thinking outside of corporate: what are your skills, more importantly what are your likes and how can you involve them in making money????

Start small even if you are working at doing something you like to do. Have a referecne checking service call old employers get the dirt on what will be said and use it to your advantage, be prepared, and take legal action if they lamb-base you, that is why they have lawyers.

Remember I lost my house over this: I learned a few things. MOST IMPORTANT IS TO THINK OUTSIDE THE CONVENTIONAL WISDOM WE ARE TAUGHT AS FAR AS HOW CORPORATE IS SUPPOSED TO WORK OR WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING.

YES WE HAVE TO SURVIVE BUT WHY TAKE PART IN A WORLD THAT REQUIRE US TO BE UNETHICAL…

    There are ways around this.

I’m in the very same boat. Fired twice this year.
Just today I was called into the boss’ office along with HR. Truth is, I’d been thinking of quitting anyway since I was miserable. I’ve been being quiet and listening to my heart and sorting out what I truly want.
Still, it is difficult when this happens, you struggle with self-doubt. I know my work was good. I got along with most everyone there except the CEO and the HR dragon lady who I have felt belittled by since the first week.
I haven’t even told my husband yet, and I am scared.
Thank God for my beautiful family, who will no doubt offer me kind words. Thank God that all of you are out here, too, so that I do not feel like a freak who can’t deal with life. Thank you all for sharing your stories.
I hope and pray that these last two experiences were simply God directing me out of the miserable office world and towards my true calling in which I will be using my creativity to make beautiful differences in this world.

    Team-

We are considered the outspoken, driven, and most productive but also looked at as disruptive because we see areas that need to be improved but ” the corporate world” does not want that. I have not lost my job but management has filed a corrective action against me because I was “very outspoken” regarding my thoughts on motivation and the work process. Since the corrective action (CA) I filed a grievence and work hasnt been fun. Management watches and listens to my every move and thats ok with me b/c I work hard and my actions speak louder than my frustration of words. So my food for thought is- Dont shut your mouth b/c if you shut it then you will never be heard, find other ways to guide management into the 21 century. I have found to given management what they want, follow their rules, have a positive attitude, and lead by example. Dont look at the short-term effects but the long-term effects and what can you do to improve the longterm b/c thats what matters the most.

Every 60 seconds we spend upset is a minute of happines we will never get back!

GOD-Please help us to become better communicators without loosing our passionsand drive!

    Haley

    hi anna!

not everything is meant to be but anything is worth a try..

The difference with me is that I resigned on my 1st job and wanting to resign on my next job. I cannot find happiness in my work since it has a conflict with my values. Currently, I’m working as a marketer of men’s lubricant, and I’m not happy having it as my brand. It promotes lust. Please help me decide…
